Frequently Asked Questions
RSVP
Q: What is the RSVP deadline?
A: Please RSVP by August 30th, 2026.

Q: Can I RSVP on behalf of my whole family/my date?
A: Yes, absolutely. As long as they are invited, you can RSVP for anyone and everyone in your party.

Q: How do I let you know that I have dietary restrictions?
A: There is a section for that on the RSVP form.

Q: How do I send in my RSVP?
A: You can go to the RSVP page on this website - which is right here.
Travel
Q: What is the best airport to fly into?
A: The best airport to fly into is the Edinburgh airport. If that doesn't work with your schedule or looks like it will be too expensive, then the next best option would be to fly into London Heathrow.
Q: If I decide to fly into London, how do I get to Edinburgh from there?
A: From London Heathrow, you will either take an Uber or a train into the city. If you take an Uber, you will go directly to King's Cross Station. If you take a train, you will have to switch lines at Paddington Station to get to King's Cross Station. Once you've made it to King's Cross, you will take a train to Edinburgh, which will be roughly a 4-5 hour journey.

Q: If I'm taking a train from London to Edinburgh, do I need to buy my ticket in advance?
A: Yes, absolutely. The trains frequently sell out, and the last thing we want is for you to be stranded!

Q: Have you reserved any hotel room blocks?
A: Yes! For your convenience, we have reserved room blocks at two different hotels. You can see all of that information, as well as instructions on how to book your room, on the Travel & Stay page of the website.

Q: Do I have to stay in one of the hotels that you chose?
A: Of course not! You are free to stay wherever you want. Just be advised that the coach to the wedding will be picking everyone up from our chosen hotels, so you will need to be there for the pick-up - otherwise you'll have to find your own way to the castle.

Q: What kind of clothing should I pack?
A: While we can't see into the future, we have been to Edinburgh in October before. You should be fine in jeans and a sweater, along with a jacket or a light coat. Be sure to bring comfortable shoes, as most of the city streets are covered in rough cobblestone. And don't forget your rain gear - Scottish weather can turn nasty very quickly!

Q: What are the most important things for me to have before I travel?
A: You need an up-to-date passport, an approved ETA form, and a plug adapter for your electronics.
The Welcome Dinner
Q: Do I have to attend the Welcome Dinner?
A: Nope! It's totally optional. While we would love to see you before the wedding (and to give you a free meal), we also understand that you may want to spend your Friday evening exploring the city. If so, then no harm, no foul! We will see you the next day.

Q: I'm traveling with a friend who isn't invited to the wedding. Can they come to the Welcome Dinner?
A: Yes, they can! The more the merrier! Please just RSVP on their behalf so that we know that they are attending.

Q: What if I have a dietary restriction?
A: You can let us know on the RSVP form, and your restrictions will be accommodated. If your dietary needs are complicated, or if you have any questions about the menu, please feel free to reach out to us directly.

Q: What's the deal with the optional drinks before the dinner?
A: The venue would not allow our dinner to start until 8 p.m. However, they would give us use of the Club Room beginning at 7 p.m. The Club Room has a nice bar, so we figured, hey, why not? If you just want to come socialize and have a drink before dinner, then you are welcome to join us there! Otherwise, we will see you at 8 p.m.

Q: Do I need to pay for anything?
A: Dinner and all drinks during the dinner will be completely covered by us. If you decide to hang out with us at the bar beforehand, then it will be a cash bar.
The Wedding
Q: How do I get to the venue?
A: The castle is about 40 minutes outside of Edinburgh, in a fairly rural area (we're talking fields of sheep here). We don't want anyone to stress about renting a car or having a designated driver for the ride back. So, we're providing a coach to get everyone to and from the castle. The coach will pick you up at your hotel, and then it will bring you to Borthwick. At the end of the night, it will take you back. If you don't want to stay at the wedding until the wee hours of the morning, we will have the coach take people home at two different times so that everyone can decide how late they want to stay.

Q: What if I want to drive myself to the wedding?
A: That's no problem! Parking on the premises is free.

Q: What if I miss the coach?
A: If you miss the coach, then you can actually take an Uber to the castle. We did it during our last visit, and we had no problems getting there. But please be advised that Uber doesn't service the area around the castle, so at the end of the night, you will have to go back to your hotel on the coach.

Q: Will the wedding be indoors or outdoors?
A: We will be inside for the entire evening.

Q: Can I bring a plus-one?
A: Due to the limited capacity of this historic building, we can only host the people who were directly invited. But if you are traveling with a friend or a partner, we still encourage you to reserve a hotel room with our discount code!

Q: What should I wear?
A: The most important thing to wear is shoes with some grip on the soles. The castle is full of tight spiral staircases that have been worn slick over the past 600 years. We don't want anyone to take a tumble, so leave all slippery shoes and 8-inch platforms at home. Instead, opt for slightly lower heels and shoes with some traction. Beyond footwear, the dress code is Black Tie. This means tuxes and formal, floor-length gowns (or formal jumpsuits/suits, if dresses aren't your thing). For stair-related reasons, we discourage our guests from wearing any dress with a long train.

Q: Is my outfit too much?
A: No! There is no such thing. Please show up and show out. Wear something that makes you feel confident and beautiful. But if you're still feeling unsure, you are welcome to reach out to either of us. One of us (Alex) loves to shop and help people choose outfits.

Q: What if I'm unable to source a tuxedo?
A: A formal black suit would be a perfectly acceptable alternative.

Q: Can I bring a coat, a purse, or an umbrella?
A: Yes, of course! There is a coat room at the entrance for all your personal effects.

Q: Will there be an open bar?
A: Yes! There will be a full-service open bar that serves cocktails, liquor, beer, soft drinks, and coffee. Wine and Prosecco will be served with dinner.

Q: How much food will there be?
A: We will be serving hors d'oeuvres during cocktail hour, followed by a three-course plated dinner. Later in the evening, there will be dessert and a late night snack of pizza. Please come hungry!

Q: What if I have a dietary restriction?
A: You can let us know on the RSVP form, and your restrictions will be accommodated. If your dietary needs are complicated, or if you have any questions about the menu, please feel free to reach out to us directly.

Q: Do I need to bring a gift?
A: No. Absolutely not. Your presence at our wedding is gift enough for us.
